Every year, Canada expects to welcome around 400,000 new permanent citizens. The vast majority of these immigrants will become proud Canadian citizens. They take loyalty oaths affirming their devotion to the obligations and privileges of Canadian citizenship once that process is completed.

Who is eligible to apply?

Most applicants must meet certain requirements in order to become Canadian citizens.

• A permanent resident who has spent at least three of the previous five years in Canada (1,095 days). 

• Have submitted their taxes,

• Passed a citizenship test, and

• Demonstrated their English or French language skills
